Whether for career development or other kinds of continuing education, people who find themselves back in a classroom setting often realize they need help with the writing it involves.
See if you recognize yourself in any of these situations:

• Your writing is a little rusty, or perhaps writing has always been difficult for you, but you couldn't say no to taking a course that includes a lot of writing, and now you need help.

• A deadline is looming on a writing project for a class you're taking, and you need help on it because things are suddenly busy at work.

• A recent course and thoughts of a promotion have motivated you to strengthen and polish your writing skills.

A writing coach can be the answer in these and similar situations, and you can get an experienced writing coach to help you for a relatively short time and at little cost. A writing coach can give you extra help outside the classroom, or help as you take a course via the Internet or by correspondence. Coaching is a quick way to get help with writing and it's easy to get started.

Coaching is available in the Cleveland area.   One-to-one confidential coaching sessions, where you can sit down in private with a writing coach experienced in working with adult learners, are available near where you live, work or are taking a class -- including all locations of Cleveland State University, Cuyahoga Community College, business schools, technical institutes and other community colleges. Coaching is also available via this Web site.

Why use a writing coach?  An experienced writing coach understands your special situation as an adult learner. Coaching is individualized to focus on your specific writing needs. Its one-to-one, personalized approach is the best way to help turn around a writing problem or concentrate on an upcoming challenge. The content and pace of coaching sessions can be adjusted to match your progress. You get undivided attention and the full benefit of the writing coach’s experience. The time and location of coaching sessions can be fitted to your schedule.

Why I am a good choice.  After helping people with their writing for so many years, I see even the simplest writing as an intrinsic, highly personal effort. I believe everyone's writing abilities are distinctly different and any writing problems someone may have are truly unique to that individual. I am nonjudgmental and very supportive. I take a personalized, individual approach with everyone I coach, and I try to maximize the help they get relative to their needs, whether it's just writing an effective e-mail or producing a technical research paper. I get a lot of personal satisfaction from being able to help someone with their writing. Besides being a writing and editing professional, I have solid experience in business and technology, the two areas at the heart of many career and professional development courses.

Coaching packages.  A basic coaching package consists of three one-hour sessions that you can space however you want, or combine into one or two longer sessions. This package should be enough either to get you headed in the right direction on writing improvement or to complete a writing project. The fee is $200 and includes an additional hour of assessment or an additional hour of editing help on a writing project. Add-on coaching sessions are $50 per hour.
